Personal Story: A Nigerian Physiotherapist's Migration to Canada

Nurudeen Tunde Amusat graduated as the very FIRST BSc Physiotherapy 1st Class Honours student of the University of Ibadan PT program in 1994. After practicing in Nigeria for 4 years, he migrated to Kuwait, from where he later migrated to Canada after 3.5 years. Nurudeen has since completed a Master degree program and is now practicing in Alberta, Canada. Blue 470-nm light kills methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in vitro

Chukuka Enwemeka, PT, PhD, FACSM and his research team from New York Institute of Technology were able to show that using photo-irradiation techniques, specifically, 470-nm wavelength of light, in the blue region of the light spectrum, killed colonies of the resistant strains of bacteria. The team was also able to demonstrate that this wavelength could be used in a clinical setting, for close range photo-irradiation where infection of MRSA is cutaneous or subcutaneous, i.e. close to the surface. The Nigeria Physiotherapy Network congratulates Dr. Enwemeka and his team for this BREAKTHROUGH scientific discovery.
