Attention: Admission is now closed for the Fall 2017 t-DPT admission. You can however immediately initiate application process for the Fall 2018 admission. The earlier you start the application process, the better. PLEASE USE SAME PROCEDURE BELOW TO APPLY for admission in the 2018 tDPT Class.

Dear Colleagues,

Information below is for Nigerian Physiotherapists interested in applying for a t-DPT program being offered through the University of Michigan-Flint. We are happy to inform you that all arrangements have now been completed to accept another 20 cohorts of t-DPT students commencing their studies in August 2018.

Please STRICTLY follow to the letter, the instructions given below in order to have a potentially successful application. UM-Flint Graduate School and Physical Therapy program will only review completed applications. May 15, 2018 is deadline for completed application package (no exception).

The application process involves the following steps:
  • Submission of Online Application and credit card payment of $55 USD fee OR mail in a completed paper application with $55 cheque drawn on a US Bank.
  • Order copy of WES transcript evaluation and Official transcripts showing all courses and grades earned at your entry-level BScPT or BMR institution. 
  • Send copies of you current PT license or registration with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board for 2016/2017.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • A current CV or Resume

A. Submit an Application
  1. You have the option to either submit an online application which is faster and better (credit card payment of $55 application fee is required to complete online application) OR mail in a completed application package.
  2. To complete an online application, follow steps 4 through 8 below.
  3. To complete a paper application, follow step 9 below .
  4. Complete an online application at the link: http://www.umflint.edu/graduateprograms/apply/apply-online.page
  5. Once you complete the biodata portion of the application, you will be directed to an online payment page. If you have a valid VISA or Mastercard, you can then proceed to make an online payment of $55.
  6. Once your online payment is accepted, your online application is complete and electronically submitted to the UM-Flint Graduate School. You will receive an email confirmation of your completed application. Once done, skip steps 7-9 below, and proceed to item B below.
  7. If your VISA/Mastercard payment is declined or not successful, OR if you do not have a VISA/Mastercard credit card, you can still complete the online application without online payment, but MUST proceed to steps 8 below to complete the application.
  8. After completing the biodata portion of the online application, take note of your Online Application ID, then send an email to graduate@umflint.edu informing them of your online application (state the application ID), mention to them that your payment of $55 will be mailed to them via a US bank check/draft. Skip step 9 and proceed to item B below.
  9. To apply by mail, download and complete the attached application form. Fill all the information on a computer, print iout the completed application, sign relevant portions, attach relevant documents and a $55 bank draft/cheque drawn on a US Bank. Mail your completed application with documents mentioned in item B below.
B. Documents to submit with your application
Once application is completed (online or paper), forward the following documents to UM-Flint graduate School:
  1. If online payment was not made in item A above, include an application fee of $55 in bank draft or cashier's cheque drawn on a US Bank (Contact CitiBank, GTB, ICB, etc for assistance).
  2. Make immediate arrangements to have your PT School send official transcript(s) and course content of your PT entry-level (and post-graduate PT degrees if applicable) to World Education Services (WES), http://www.wes.org.
  3. Copy of you current PT license or registration with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria for 2017 and 2018
  4. Two letters of recommendations using the attached form. Complete the top portion of the Recommendation form, and the lower portion must be completed by your 'Recommender'.
  5. May 15, 2018 is deadline for completed application package, i.e. Graduate School application, and all supporting documents including evaluated transcripts. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. Incomplete application package WILL NOT BE considered for the 2018/2019 academic year.

C. Transcript Evaluation
Apply for the WES ICAP evaluation services. The WES ICAP evaluation service costs $195 if ordered and paid for online using a credit card, otherwise, paper application attracts additional $30.
  1. Order the WES ICAP evaluation service online using a credit card at the link: http://www.wes.org/apply. OR download the Paper Application Form from WES website.
  2. Make arrangements to have your BScPT/BMR degree transcripts and course content sent directly to WES (address below). Possibly use courier services such as UPS, DHL, FEDEX or EMS Speed Post.
  3. If you do not have a credit card to order online, download and complete the paper evaluation request, send the application and appropriate dollar amount in casher's cheque/bank draft drawn on a US Bank for the WES ICAP services with your transcript to WES.
  4. All transcript evaluations MUST reach UM-Flint Graduate School by May 15, 2018 to be considered for the Fall 2018 admissions.
  5. The WES ICAP service will automatically forward an authenticated transcript and its evaluation report to UMFlint within 7 days of receiving all complete documentation and payment.

  7. You are strongly advised to use courier services such as FEDEX, DHL, UPS or EMS SPEED Post to mail all documents. There will be no exceptions or acceptable excuses for missing the May 15, 2018 deadline. Mail documents to WES at either addresses below:

D. English Language Requirement
All international applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in English.
  1. This is usually demonstrated by taking TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB or ECPE.
  2. In lieu of TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB, the UM-Flint PT program has developed an online English Language Proficiency course to be taken in June 2017 prior to start of t-DPT classes in September 2017, See more details at the webspage: English Language Program.
  3. Therefore, all applicants must either submit a TOEFL score, or enrol in the June 2018 English Language proficiency course.
  4. Those offered admission will need to meet either requirements before permitted to start the t-DPT classes in September.

E. Length of Program
  1. The length of program is dependent on each student's dilligence.
  2. Averagely, we expect an 18-24 months duration or less depending on how many credit hours a student is able to carry per semester.
  3. A minimum of 24 credit hours may be needed to complete the t-DPT program.
  4. The more credit hours a student is able to successfully enroll in per semeter, the faster he/she can complete the program. Your admission letter (if shortlisted will carry more specific details).
F. Cost of the Program and Mode of Payment
  1. The program cost for International students is approximately $17,000.00 to $23,000.00 depending on total credit hours taken
  2. One-time payment for the program is accepted. Semester by semester payment for only courses enrolled in a single semester is also accepted
  3. ALL tuition and other fees MUST be paid prior to beginning of each semester (no exceptions or excuses). Specific deadlines for payments will be communicated to you.
  4. Payments must be made by direct bank transfer to a US bank account to be designated by UM-Flint graduate School or credit card payments.
G. Mode of Instruction
  1. All lectures and courses will be 100% online.
  2. You will need a dedicated computer or laptop, broadband internet access, and uninterupted electricity during study time.
  3. Lectures will be asynchromously delivered; i.e. you are able to learn at your own pace, and in your own time, as long as you are meeting deadline for assignments, etc. There WILL BE 0% (zero percent) tolerance for missing assignment deadlines.
  4. There will be a final dissertation/research project to be mentored by a UM-Flint Professor.
H. Orientation for t-DPT Student
The UM-Flint will be organizing an orientation program for admitted tDPT students. Details will be contained in the admission letter.

Lastly, the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network is depending on the dilligence, high professional ethics and forthrightness of the t-DPT class of 2017 to continue to make great impact and impression on the Professors and Administration of UM-Flint. We therefore strongly admonish our colleagues who will be fortunate enough to be shorlisted for the next 20-Cohort class to be great ambassadors of Nigerian PT Schools, so that this tDPT opportunities can remain open for others. Hopefully, Nigerian PT schools will also be able to commence their own DPT and tDPT programs in the nearest possible future.
