Breaking News: It’s here!!! UM-Flint t-DPT Application now open for Nigerian Physiotherapists

After about a year of hard-work, prayers, and travels within the United States and Nigeria, the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network is happy to announce that the application for Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program (t-DPT) to be offered to Nigerian physiotherapists through the University of Michigan-Flint, Flint, Michigan, USA, is now open.

Nigerian PT colleagues who have initially expressed interest to be considered for one of the twenty (20) spots commencing studies in August 2011 will receive personalized emails with further details of the application process. All interested applicants are therefore encouraged to apply immediately STRICTLY following the guidelines of the UM-Flint Graduate School and Physical Therapy program.

Students to enroll in the t-DPT program are expected to complete a minimum of 24 credit hours (CHR) of studies. It is possible for an applicant to be required to take more than 24 CHR if the UM-Flint Admission committee so determine based on BScPT/BMR degree transcript evaluation report.

The cost of the program (based on a 24 credit hours estimation) for non-Michigan State residents (i.e. non-indigenes of the State of Michigan, including International students) is approximately $17,000 (some other mandatory fees inclusive). The cost of the program for Michigan State residents (indigenes) is approximately $13,000 (some other mandatory fees inclusive).

The UM-Flint Physical Therapy Program has graciously agreed to grant all Nigerian PTs to be enrolled in the program a scholarship equivalent to the tuition fee differential between Michigan residents and International students. This implies that the final program cost will be equivalent to same tuition fee paid by Michigan residents.

In summary, the program will cost approximately $13,000 for most Nigerian PTs, except if required to take some extra courses to make up for any deficiencies in their transcript evaluation report. At this time, we very strongly urge only colleagues who ARE EXTREMELY SURE of being able to afford the program to apply.

The DPT Certificate to be awarded upon completion of the program will be granted by the University of Michigan-Flint.

We look forward to the first cohort of 20 Nigerian PTs to pilot this initiative.

Disclaimer: The Nigeria Physiotherapy Network and has absolutely no control in who is admitted to the program. The decision to grant admission to individual applicants is the sole right and responsibility of the University of Michigan-Flint Graduate School and the Physical Therapy Program. Their decision is therefore final. The role of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network was only to broker and facilitate the t-DPT initiative. Nigerian PTs who therefore apply to the UMFlint program does so understanding that the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network is free of any liability thereof. Potential students from here will deal directly with the University of Michigan-Flint.
